Comedy comes to the stage at the Greene County High School auditorium this weekend as the Community Players of Greene County present “The Nerd,” by Larry Shue.
The cast includes Jeff Hughes, Sarah Stortz, Darren Jackson, Tim Pound, Heather Moody Chloe Powers, and Josh Tuel as The Nerd.
The play is co-directed by Stephanie Hall and Josh Tuel.
“The Nerd” features the humor of mistaken identity, pranks, and unreturned affection. It premiered in 1979 in Milwaukee, WI, and had its European premier in 1982. It ran on Broadway for 441 performances from March 1987 to April 1988. NBC commissioned a sitcom pilot adapted from the play in 1989; a series wasn’t optioned, but the pilot finally aired in 1996.

Performances are Friday and Saturday, April 5 and April 6, at 7 pm, and Sunday, April 7, at 2 pm, at Greene County High School. Tickets are available in advance at Jefferson banks or at the door.
“The Nerd” is performed under special arrangements with Broadway Licensing LLC, the Dramatist Play Service Collection.
